DEFINITIONS

Not all carbon storage is carbon removal.

Capturing fossil CO₂ avoids new emissions; it does not take carbon out of the atmosphere. Removal happens when the stored CO₂ is biogenic or atmospheric in origin, when the project is additional, and when storage is durable, quantified and verified. Endura's platform is built specifically for that standard.

Additionality

The removals exist only because the project exists. Fermentation CO₂ that is vented today becomes CO₂ that is captured, transported and stored.

Permanence

CO₂ is injected into deep saline formations beneath successive impermeable layers, in a storage design intended for durability on geological timescales, with monitoring designed to detect and manage any deviation, and with defined closure and post-closure responsibility.

Quantification and MRV

Metering from the mill gate to the wellhead, continuous reservoir monitoring and standardized measurement, reporting and verification support an unbroken chain of custody and independent audit of every tonne.

No land-use competition

The platform uses CO₂ already produced by existing mills and stores it deep underground. It does not compete with agriculture, forests or water resources.

Endura's projects are developed in alignment with applicable regulation and recognized technical standards, and are intended to deliver independently verified removals.

The Brazilian framework

Brazil's Fuel of the Future Law (Law 14,993/2024) established the legal foundation for CO₂ capture and storage, assigning licensing authority to the ANP, with exploration and storage authorizations of up to 30 plus 30 years. Transitional regulation (ANP Resolution 859/2024) is in force, and integration of carbon removal into Brazil's emissions trading system (SBCE) is advancing. Endura participates in this regulatory build-out and designs its projects to meet it.

FAQ

Common questions

Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage. Plants absorb CO₂ as they grow; when biomass is processed into fuels such as ethanol, part of that biogenic CO₂ is released in concentrated form. Capturing and storing it geologically removes carbon from the natural cycle, which can make the balance net-negative.

Ethanol fermentation releases high-purity CO₂, which makes capture simpler and cheaper than in almost any other source. Brazil concentrates hundreds of mills above and near suitable deep saline formations, and has an established legal framework for storage. Few places in the world combine source, geology and regulation this way.

Geological storage has been practiced and studied for decades. Projects are designed with multiple independent containment layers, engineered wells, continuous monitoring with defined action triggers, and closure and post-closure responsibilities under regulation. Safety is a design requirement, not an assumption.

Monitoring and verification continue through operations and after closure, under the long-term framework defined by Brazilian regulation.
